Frequently Asked Questions

How does the day work?

Take the train from Lisbon to Sintra (around 1 hour), ride about 35 km through the forest and along the coast to Cascais, then take the train back to Lisbon (around 1 hour). Plan time for lunch, stops along the way, at the beach and an ice cream in Cascais.

Can I choose my start time?

Yes, the tour is private, so you choose when to start. To make the most of the day, we suggest starting at 9:30.

Can I keep the bike all day?

Yes. The distance is only a guide: the bike is yours for the full day, so you can stop for lunch, visit places along the way and ride at your own pace.

Do I need to plan around train times?

Yes. The tour includes train tickets, and trains run to a timetable, so keep train times in mind when planning your start, stops and your return to Lisbon. Timetables can change without notice, so please check the current times with the train operator and with our team before you go.

Does the route go by Pena Palace?

No, the route does not go by Pena Palace. If you would like to visit one of the monuments in Sintra, you may have time for the Palácio Nacional de Sintra or the Convent of the Capuchos, but we do not advise combining the ride with several monuments. Best to book visits in advance.

Can I ride to Cabo da Roca?

Yes, there is an optional ride to Cabo da Roca and back, if you would like to explore further.

How does the navigation work?

After a short briefing, you follow the route on RideWithGPS. It shows route details and suggestions on where to stop and what to see, and it helps you get back on track if you take a wrong turn.

“Bus tour was not nearly as good as our bike tour. Too much sitting and waiting. Not enough fresh air and adventure. We really enjoyed ourselves yesterday!”
